What you see should be what you get.

The redoubtable Steve Clayton loves his infoporn. He gives us links to some interesting representations of information.

In the BI and Performance Management world, I think we should be going beyond the Red, Amber, Green/Up, Down, No Change type visualisations into exciting and challenging representations. Not challenging to the customer but challenging to us. We, as development houses need to expand our appreciation and understanding of visuals, design and information representation.

The customer can understand apparently complex visualisations when they are relevant and recognisable as representing their business – can we design as well as build it?

Some Swiss academics have given us a categorisation of the risks inherent in visualisations (pdf format) – an interesting cautionary piece.
